Quick Tip: Straws and Little Ones
I spent the last few days with a very dear friend, and she thought I should share this with you! I guess I've done it for so long, I didn't consider it unusual!
I used to call these little tricks and hints "Saturday Scoop", but I haven't done one for a LONG time -- so I'll just call this a "Quick Tip"!!
Often, when you eat at a fast food or other restaurant, the cups will be smaller -- but the straw is regular-sized! This led to quite a few spills with my girls, because they would pick up the whole cup and tilt it almost horizontal to reach the straw.
To alleviate this problem, I started carrying a small pair of scissors in my purse to cut the straw! I make it very short, so there is no need to tip the cup!
Our spill rate at restaurants has definitely decreased!

Ugh.... we always have the same problem! I'll need to invest in a small pair of scissors I guess! I hate that problem!
Jamie @ hands on : as we grow
I love this! I've done it for almost 12 years!;) I just bought a pair of small (Kindergarten) safety scissors and have them with me at all times! I learned early on (when my 1st child was a couple of weeks old) that having scissors handy is a lifesaver!:) They are handy to cut those plastic ties off sunglasses and shoes and I've even used them to cut the tip off of Baby Orajel!:) Keep up the great work!
I keep a few bendy straws in my purse or in the glove compartment of the car!
Great idea!
I do the same thing. In the rare instance I don't have my scissors, I use the knife on the table to saw it off. Just put the jagged edge of the straw INTO the cup!
I have one of those plastic toothbrush cases from the travel toiletries section and I keep bendy straws in it. Contained, clean, and always available. The scissors idea is a good one too!
Yep! Been doing this for 6 years! The lady at the coffee hut even knows to stip the top couple inches off my boys' smoothie straws...because I asked so many times time borrow the scissors she uses to prop open the sliding window! LOL
I keep a small Swiss Army pocket knife on my keychain, and it has a small pair of scissors on it that we use for this very purpose!
Genius. The boys are old enough so I forgot about that frustrating stage however this will come in handy for Miss Sassy Pants who will soon be at "that" age.
