The parties are sponsored by various companies, and they send you "party packs" with free goodies for you and your guests (and coupons sometimes).  Obviously, this is advertising for the company, but it's still a lot of fun! 

I recently hosted a "Perler Bead-A-Palooza" house party, and I combined this with a stone soup party.  It was great -- maybe a little overwhelming (there were over 30 kids in my house) -- but definitely a good time!
