Book Review: Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids

I just realized I've had this book for a while, so I need to get my review up! I'm still looking for a great devotional for preschoolers, so if you know of one please leave me a comment!

Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions For KidsJesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids is an adapted version of missionary Sarah Young's Jesus Calling: A 365 Day Journaling Devotional for adults. This unique little devotional is written from the perspective of Jesus -- as if He is speaking to you.

Each page is dated (month and day) and includes a focus Scripture, devotional thought, and a passage to read on your own.

I'm a little torn about my opinion of this book. On the one hand, I'm not a huge fan of the writing style. With my faith background, I'm a little hesitant about someone writing "the thoughts/words of Jesus". My preschoolers kept wondering if that was really what Jesus said. Also, the concepts were a little advanced for them and didn't hold their attention well.

On the other hand, my oldest (age 6) did enjoy some of the devotions. She had some good questions. I think the devotions would be helpful to learn to "see yourself as God sees you." I can imagine this devotional being used by 8-12 year olds and creating great discussion starters for parents and children.

This book was provided by Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
