Paper Plate Sunflower House

Sunflower House by Eve Bunting is the sweet story of a little boy who plants a circle of sunflower seeds and waits patiently for it to grow.  When it is is full grown, he and his friends realize they have a "house" to play in for the summer.  After reading it, the girls wanted to plant their own circle of sunflower seeds!  Unfortunately, it is a little too late to plant them, so we improvised.  We used a classic children's craft and added a twist to make our own little indoor "sunflower house!"

Sunflower House (Books for Young Readers)

You need:
Paper plate
Markers or paint
Sunflower seeds
Green streamers
Tape
Chairs

1)  Color or paint the edges of a paper plate yellow.  Color or paint the inside section brown.

2)  Cut into the yellow edges to make petals.

3)  Glue unshelled sunflower seeds in the brown section.

4)  Make a circle of chairs to form the house.  Tape the sunflowers to the chairs.  Add green streamers for stems.

The stormy weather kept us inside today, but the Sunflower House was a hit!

That's a great idea! We're definitely going to have to do this craft.
